At Calvary Church, discipleship is a growing journey marked by transformation. Our Follower Milestones help us reflect on who we are becoming in Christ—Biblical Practitioners, Trustworthy Guides, Sacrificial Neighbors, and Intentional Storytellers. Each milestone invites us to live with purpose, rooted in Scripture and empowered to impact the world around us.
A person of wisdom, integrating the Bible in their daily life.
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God—the foundation of wisdom and truth—and the primary way we come to know the character of God. As a community, we want to be people who read and meditate on God’s Word daily so that our minds and hearts are transformed (Romans 12:1-2).
To follow Jesus means not only knowing God's Word but also living it out. Through spiritual disciplines, our habits begin to change, and we learn to live more like Jesus in our everyday lives. Our vision is to be a community that doesn’t just hear the Word, but puts it into practice.
This milestone is designed to help individuals and groups learn how to study the Bible and apply it practically. Integrating Scripture into our daily lives is essential for anyone who wants to live the Jesus way. Our hope is that this milestone would help form a community of people shaped by the truths of Scripture—living, loving, and leading under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
A person of integrity, leading others to who God created them to be.
All throughout Scripture, we see followers of God walking alongside one another as they grow into who God created them to be. We see this modeled in the relationships of Moses and Joshua, Elijah and Elisha, Jesus and His disciples, and Paul with Timothy and Titus. At Calvary, we want to follow this biblical pattern by equipping our community to be trustworthy guides to those who are newer or younger in their faith.
Our vision is to see a community of Christ-followers guiding one another toward maturity—walking together in grace, wisdom, and love.
This milestone is designed to equip individuals to walk alongside others on their journey with Jesus. It begins with growing as a person of integrity. In order to be a trustworthy guide, one must be shaped by godly character and be someone others can rely on.
Secondly, this milestone will help you develop the skill of asking thoughtful, Spirit-led questions—ones that help others process what they’re going through and discern how Jesus is at work in their lives. You’ll also receive practical tools to help you walk with others in a way that reflects the heart and way of Jesus.
A person of welcome, living life for the sake of others.
As followers of Jesus, we are called to love God and love others. One of the primary ways we do this is by becoming more like Christ—for the sake of others.
Jesus gave us the ultimate example of sacrificial love through His death on the cross. But He also showed us what it means to be a good neighbor in the story of the Good Samaritan. Jesus was a person of welcome—He loved and spent time with those near Him, those on the margins, and even those who stood against Him.
Our vision is to be a community marked by that same spirit of welcome and hospitality. A people who are willing to sacrifice our time, resources, and gifts for the good of others and the advancement of God's Kingdom.
A person of hope, ready to share what God is doing in his/her life.
We all have a story to share. And the most important story we can tell is how we encountered Jesus—and how that encounter has transformed our lives.
God desires to use our stories to connect with others and share the hope we’ve found in Him. We live in a world that is longing for hope, love, peace, and joy—all of which are available through the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives. We simply need to be ready to share when the opportunity arises.
Our vision is to be a community of hopeful people who are prepared to share the difference Jesus has made in their lives with those around them.
This milestone is designed to help you reflect on and articulate your personal story—your encounter with Jesus—so that you're ready to share it when the moment comes. It will also equip you to communicate Gospel truth in the cultural climate we live in today.
We are all shaped by stories, and our hope is to share the most compelling one.
